Seiko Introduces Three New “King Turtle” US Exclusive Models To Support Oceanic Society’s Efforts
The Seiko “King Turtle” is a fairly common entry level watch for many enthusiasts and collectors alike. The model fits many affordable price-points, is definitely rugged enough to take the beating of a daily wear, and comes in so many variations it can be dizzying at times to keep up. This week, the brand released a trio of new models with some unique finishing and more than a nod to its nickname.

THE JUICE:
Ocean Conservation is a hot button item in the watch industry right now - as it should be. We’ve seen models from Breitling, and even the most recent Oris Up-Cycle take a shot at drawing attention to just how important our oceans are. Seiko partners with Oceanic Society for this release - Americas’s first ocean conservation non-profit. The models are designed to draw attention to Oceanic Society’s SWOT Program - an initiative to protect endangered sea turtles. I can’t think of a more apt model to support the effort.
The King Turtle is a bit of an icon in the watch industry. It’s recognizable fusion shaped, oversized case provides a snug fit and an easily legible dial. In the case of these new models, the dials feature a really cool finishing that resembles a pattern of sea turtle shell. The stainless case feature alternating polished and brushed finishing and a black ceramic bezel with a matching steel bracelet and rubber strap.
Modern Seiko has been aptly praised for its finishing. While the brand has seen a fairly steep price increase in the last few years, the quality of their offerings have easily came to match. In fact, I’d argue that a significant portion of their catalogue far surpasses the quality of many in the same price point. Overall, Seiko has far exceeded my, and many others expectations. While I have not seen this watch in the metal, and will therefore reserve my final judgement for that time, I can’t imagine these watches will be any kind of disappointing. And at this price-point, I imagine we will see these become quite popular.
