The De Bethune Dream Watch 5 Tourbillon ‘Season One’ - A Unique Challenge from Swizz Beatz

Swizz Beatz has been around the watch industry for quite some time. The artist has seemingly found a keen eye for horology, even if it’s a bit eccentric. I’m reminded of the recent collaboration with Zenith, and the mixed reviews that came The trio of electric orange timepieces (though, I was personally a huge fan). Today, De Bethune has announced that it was challenged by the artist, the the result was the De Bethune Dream Watch 5 Tourbillon.

If you’re familiar with the brand, the outer world themed visions are equal parts horological nuance and space themed goodness. For a sci-fi enthusiast, the brand presents some truly grail pieces.

The dream watch 5 is no exception. While there isn’t a ton of real information about the watch released yet (we’ll update when it becomes available), what we do know is very impressive.

For starters, the case is made in titanium in a unique shape. And unlike previously released Dream Watch 5’s, this model features 7 cutouts fitted with sapphire crystals to allow a good portion of the dial to be visible through the UFO-esque case. Like previous watches from the brand, the time is determined at the 3 o’ clock cutout via a series of rotating discs.

A major draw to this watch is the seemingly solid piece of hand polished titanium that makes up the case. I don’t see a single straight line on this watch, as it’s crafted intentionally to look like a space ship. It’s triangular shape allows for the crown to be at its widest portion allowing the DB Calibre 2149’s dial to be on full display against the blue-treated titanium case. Additionally, the 30-second Tourbillon is nestled in to the back of the movement (pictures to come), with a cleverly placed Moonphase next to the time on the dial side. The movement features a 4- day power reserve.

Overall, this a slam dunk for the brand. It’s ultra limited (10 pieces), and since the brand only releases a few hundred watches a year, I imagine this won’t have a hard time finding buyers.
