The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition
Girard Perregaux has paved its way into the enthusiast spotlight recently with a series of new Laureato models. The brand’s obvious push into the steel sports watch category has been long awaited, and I would argue often too late. With the seeming explosion of interest in steel sports watches, gaining ground at this level of completion can be pretty difficult. The Laureato has always feels a specific segment in the brand’s history, and the latest release into the collection is some serious fun. Introducing the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition.

THE JUICE:
The first time we’ve seen these brands come together was earlier this year with the 3-Bridges. The Tourbillon watch was gorgeous, but a tiny production number, and a price tag of a whopping $150,000. The new watch brings both an “affordable” nature to the partnership, but also a bit more of a toned down aesthetic. Capitalizing on the ever-growing green dial trend, this watch falls right in line with the industry normal, with a really clean aesthetic.
The first thing you’ll notice is the Diamond-shaped pattern across the tradition “British green” dial. The pattern emulated the brands dial from back in its racing hayday and a common pattern on many textures in Aston Martin’s newest vehicle offerings. Even the skeletonized handset is meant to evoke the indicators from a race car of the 1920’s.
The alternating black on green sub-dials against the green textured dial promotes legibility, and also harkens back an old racing dashboard. Even the suggestion of removing excess material feels quintessentially vintage, and further emulates the old-school racing vibes I’d like to see in a modern sports Chronograph.
Overall, I find the watch quite engaging - even if it’s not insanely unique amongst many of its competing peers. The Enthusiast looking for something a little different from his more mainstream crowd, likely won’t have an issue getting one of these as the price is significantly lower than the first run at this partnership.
