Three New Globemaster's Get Added To Omega's Collection

Christmas has come early, and with it Omega has released three new watches into its Globemaster collection that channel all the Winter vibes one could possibly handle. Each watch has it’s own unique style, an and colorway that both capitalizes on the direction the industry is going, and also harkens back to a time when dress watches were a standard for formal occasions.

THE JUICE:

The Globemaster Collection is an often overlooked section of the Omega Catalogue. The collection has a rich history with the brand, dating back to 1952, and unfortunately seems to get left out of a lot of consideration in the dress watch category. The Globemaster is a strong contender in this segment, and these three new releases solidify Omega’s penchant for dress watches.

The new Globemaster Annual Calendar’s will come in 3 variations - all 41mm in size - which I concede will be a hair too large for some enthusiasts taste in dress watches. Personally, I think the size fits well as a contemporary offering from Omega.

The three variations are: Two-Tone Steel and Sedna Gold with a burgundy dial, White Gold with a green dial (I guess Omega has been paying attention to the direction of the industry), and Solid Sedna Gold with a gold dial.

The Burgundy and Green model feature the Omega Calibre 8892, which includes the pointer hand for the month ring around the perimeter of the dial. Each month is written in script. The Burgundy dial mode features a fluted Sedna Gold bezel and crown, while the Green Dial model features a Tungsten Carbide bezel and crown for “extra strength and resilience”. Being that Tungsten tends to be a slightly different hue than steel, I’ll reserve judgement for the aesthetic upon seeing the model in the metal.

For me, the real star of this show is the full Sedna Gold model. This model features Omega’s Calibre 8923 - their Co-Axial Chronometer. The watch is simply stunning. Utilizing the same Sedna Gold for the pie-pan dial, indices, hands, logo, star, and fluted bezel, this watch is a true testament to what Omega can do with it’s proprietary gold material. Additionally, and unlike anything I’ve really seen before, Onyx fills the indices and handset - adding some major vintage vibes, and also a sleek black look to the entire aesthetic.

Overall, this is a solid release for Omega. The Globemaster Collection was introduced as as ubset of the Constellation Collection as it is in 2015, and I’ve felt been severely under-utilized for the brand. While the Speedmaster tends to dominate every single conversation around Omega, I’m excited to get to discuss an even older staple with the Globemaster this winter.
