HYT Is Back With an All New Model: The HYT Hastroid
Early in December, HYT’s instagram started posting teasers for something brand new coming out of the brand. We learned, early, that David Cerrato would be taking over as CEO and the brand would be moving forward with an all-new model in January. Well that day has come. Today we get to announce that HYT’s first watch back is the HYT Hastroid - And boy is it a doozy.

THE JUICE:
Those familiar with HYT will remember that the brand isn’t exactly known for traditional methods of time-keeping. In fact, it’s defintely one of the cooler watch brands I’ve really gotten to cover over the course of writing for the industry.
Utilizing a duo of bellows that pump liquid, the time is displayed via a glass tube filled with liquid that flanks the perimiter of the dial. As the liquid moves through the capillary tube, it flows in a retrograde pattern around the hour indicator. In the past, the brand has faced an uphill battle with challenges relating to temperature changes, and the ever-present physics of expanding liquids with pressure and temperature changes in the watch. To fix this, the brand has added a Thermo-Compensator to accomodate this issue.
The watch itself just oozes (no pun intended) Science Fiction. The black case utilizes mutliple metal materials (Carbon Fiber and Titanium), while the construction itself feels UFO-esque. Since David Cerrato is by-and-far a connesseur of Science Fiction, this feels like a perfect fit, and really channels the man’s penchant for the outer limits of space.
The “Nebula” dial brings surprising clarify for a typically complicated watch. The bellows of the movement are still present at 6 o’ clock, and the green accents allow for easy time-telling at a quick glance. The lume-filled handset and chapter rings bring out a green color, against a black dial plate, so losing it in the dark won’t be an issue.
Gone is the exaggerated domed Sapphire crystal of the H1, H2, and H3 models, and instead, we’re treated to a less invasive and reserved sapphire crystal to house the dial. What becomes apparent, is that this HYT Hastroid, as non-traditional as it actually is, has not lost it’s handle on what HYT has been historically.
Overall, this is an encouraging release from HYT as it’s innaugural launch under new management. I said in my previous article, I felt that David Cerrato knows what he is doing, and would be a solid addition to the HYT Executive team. The HYT Hastroid is a solid release that encourages the idea that David is going to do great things for the brand.
How much is the HYT Hastroid?
The watch will be limited to 27 pieces, and come with a price tag of $70,000 USD.
