14 Best Casio G-Shock CasiOak Watches for 2023 - Factory and Custom
One of the most popular affordable watches ever since its original launch a couple of years ago has most definitely been the G-Shock “CasiOak.” Many in the watch industry may debate whether the G-Shock CasiOak is derivative or even a Casio G-Shock at all (a stupid, albeit popular argument). But, the G Shock GA2100 has been nicknamed the CasiOak by the watch community for a reason - the octagonal bezel (without any screws) is reminiscent of the Gerald Genta designed Audemars Piguet Royal Oak - and it’s earned it’s place amongst serious and casual collectors alike. Besides it being a fun (and relatively inexpensive watch), the CasiOak has a lot of functionality built in as well, including a world time (for multiple time zones), alarm and stopwatch. While digital watches forgo the lume we all love, the CasiOak has a backlight that is probably much more functional than even the brightest of lumes. These are things that you might expect on a higher end digital watch, and Casio did not disappoint. And don’t worry, for all us wristwatch traditionalists, the CasiOak employs analog hands as opposed to a digital display, something that makes the piece just a little more classy and wearable.
And since the CasiOak has become a staple in the affordable watch segment of Enthusiast circles, we thought we’d take a look at some of the coolest models, and highlight some of our favorites.
The OG G-Shock CasiOak Black Watch “Stealth” (Ref. GA2100-1A1)
This is the watch that started the whole Casioak craze. Naturally, it has to be number one on our wrist. The watch was familiar, yet unique. It kicked off a lot of debate about what a G-Shock actually is, and whether this is one of them. Personally, I don’t see a point to the argument. This is quintessentially a G-Shock.
From the oversized case (48.3mm x 11.5mm) to the resin case and bezel, this watch will last forever and go anywhere. And being the black on black or “Stealth” colorway will match anything - even if it’s not the most legible of the bunch. You can pick up the OG black CasiOak for just $99 USD from Amazon.
Casio G-Shock CasiOak clear series “Transparent” (Ref. GA2100SKE-7A)
Definitely a bit more legible than the “Stealth” the G Shock “Transparent” iteration of the CasiOak is amongst the core aesthetic for the Casio line. The retro-vibe has a total 90’s vibe to me. As a child of the decade, we can’t help but be reminded of the Jelly sandals that everyone wore on the weekends.
Its laid-back and an all around perfect watch to start a conversation, or just chill somewhere fun. Overall, the casual nature of the watch not only feels care-free but bold too. The transparent CasiOak is available for a very affordable $87 USD.
Casio G-Shock CasiOak GAB001G-2A
The newest entrant in the CasiOak lineup is another "transparent piece, and has become one of our favorites. G-Shock has made a couple of updates to the the case so the shape is slightly different. Additionally, the dial features multiple depths, making it more visually interesting. The GAB001G-2A comes in a variety of colors and styles, including the translucent gradient in both black and turquoise colorways. The turquoise translucent resin is our favorite variation. It plays into the whole "Tiffany Blue" craze while still being unique and interesting on its own. If you like this CasiOak, it comes with an affordable $150 USD price tag on Amazon.
Casio G-Shock CasiOak Tricolor Winter Special Edition (Ref. GMA-S2100WT-1A)
Breaking the monochromatic mold, the TriColor CasiOak features a dark blue case, strap, and bezel with a really unique cream dial with red and blue accents.
The model was released exclusively in for the Japanese market and features what the brand calls a “small sized” case - which even by modern standards is larger - measuring in at 42.9mm x 11.2mm. The reference being slightly less bold in size makes up for it in a bold color way.
The watch quickly became know as the “Mini CasiOak”, and became highly sought after on the secondary market. Since it was never made available in the US or Europe, the hunt became just as fun as the watch. And that makes it pretty damn cool.
Casio G-Shock CasiOak Full Metal (GM2100)
The GM2100 was the first officially, non-modded and sanctioned metal G Shock CasiOak. Casio officially released it earlier this year, and the crowd went wild. It quickly sold out, and even more recently was hit with a disclaimer that “only one per customer due to high demand” was required on the site.
The watch found very high reseller prices, but once restocked and the disclaimer was added, the watch became more attainable and easier to get. The wider availability and lack of complete scalpers cleaned up a pretty rough release and supply issue - and therefore makes the list for a couple reasons. It’s the first metal CasiOak that isn’t modded, and you can pick one up for as low as $172 USD.
IFLW x The Dial Artist CasiOak “Rainbow”
No list would be complete without a couple of models from our buddies at IFLW - who’ve become a bit of the standard for CasiOak mods. First, the Rainbow.
The Rainbow Rolex Daytona has become a thing of legend in the industry, and with it, many-a-models providing options that are both affordable and high quality. The IFLW x The Dial Artist is a marriage of the CasiOak and Rainbow hype and we can’t help but love it. It goes with everything, and capitalizes on the fun that a Rainbow colorway invokes from its wearers. While a bit pricier than a standard CasiOak, it’s well worth it.
IFLW x The Dial Artist CasiOak “Inferno”
No list of the coolest CasiOaks would be complete without including the IFLW x The Dial Artist “Inferno”.
The model is truly wild. Utilizing an almost streetwear style hand-painted dial to mimick flames, and a cool orange, red, and yellow design language, this watch is definitely more “out there” than the others we’ve listed here.
When it comes to modding CasiOaks, there are plenty of wrong ways to do it. But with the Inferno, the balance of color without altering the original DNA of what made the CasiOak… well, the CasiOak is truly what burns this model into our last spot (I’ll see myself out).
CASIO G-SHOCK CasiOak “Metal” on Bracelet (GMB2100D-1A)
We already featured the GM2100 with steel dial and on a rubber strap. But perhaps even cooler than that variation is the metal CasiOak with black dial, steel case and steel bracelet. For their price, one could expect Casio to provide the most bare bones stainless steel bracelet for their watches. But instead, the bracelet is extremely unique and fits the watch extremely well. This just adds to the appeal of the stainless steel CasiOak. On metal bracelet, the G-Shock CasiOak Metal retails for $550 USD. You can pick one up at retail on Amazon.
CASIO G-SHOCK CasiOak Gold (GM2100G-1A9)
If you are a fan of the metal CasiOaks, we aren't done. Casio also released the GM2100 with a gold case. We are happy to see G-Shock go all in with the models and start exploring different case materials and colors. While this watch is not made of actual gold, nobody would expect that on a G-Shock. The G-Shock CasiOak gold retails for $240 USD.
CASIO G-SHOCK CasiOak "Moon Watch" (GM2100MG-1AER)
Perhaps seeing all the customization that was occurring among collectors with the CasiOak, Casio decided to get in on the game and released one of the most interesting CasiOaks in December 2021: the CasiOak Moon Watch. The CasiOak Moon Watch was released only in Europe, China and Japan and features all the hallmarks of a Casioak, including an octagonal bezel. However, the gold bezel and dial have a sparkling moon motif, that gives the watch just a bit of funkyness. The CasiOak Moon Watch was a limited release, but retailed for just $300 USD. It is currently selling on the secondary market for around $500 USD. Perhaps we should update our list of Best Moon Watches? Probably not, because this watch has not been into the depths of outer space. Regardless, it is a cool watch.
CASIO G-SHOCK CasiOak Rose Gold (GMB2100GD-5A)
The final CasiOak on our list is another full gold piece, this time in rose gold. In our view, the full rose gold case and bracelet adds just a bit of class to the CasiOak. The rose gold CasiOak, however, is one of the more expensive models you can buy at retail. It retails for $600 USD and is available for sale on Amazon.
Casio G-Shock CasiOak GM2100SS-1A
If you are looking for a CasiOak that is a little more unconventional, the Ref. GM2100SS-1A is a fun and colorful option. The GM2100SS-1A is part of a series of G-Shocks (across multiple models) that feature “graffiti art” on the dial, case and strap. The GM2100SS-1A features a steel case and dial and orange rubber strap. The graffiti art is a mixture of blue, black, white and yellow. It may not be for everyone, but we like it. Casio G-Shock CasiOak GA2100FR-5A
Casio is well aware of the love the watch community has for the CasiOak. And that is probably why the brand is continually continually updating the CasiOak lineup with new models. We are really big fans of the Mystic Forest collection which includes a variation of the CasiOak in either a brown or green swirling pattern. It’s a little bit different and gives off almost a camoflauge vibe. You can pick up the GA2100FR-5A on Amazon for just $80 USD.
Casio G-Shock CasiOak GA2100VB-1A
This CasiOak is for some reason in the “Virtual Reality” Collection. We aren’t really sure why, but we really like the watch nonetheless. At first glance, it looks like the OG black CasiOak. But on closer inspection there are some fun changes. There are different tones of blues on the dial, bezel and hands. From a light blue to dark blue it gives us almost an 1980s/1990s Ready Player One vibe.
