Is Rolex Releasing a GMT-Master II Sprite with Green and Black Bezel Tomorrow?
So, we haven’t really been big into the Rolex prediction game this year, but tomorrow (March 30th) is the big day. Rolex will release their new lineup at Watches and Wonders. Rolex has also made it pretty clear with one of their Instagram teaser videos that they are releasing a Sky-Dweller with baby blue dial. This will likely be in white gold or platinum, but likely platinum as most or Rolex’s baby blue offerings (including the Day-Date and Daytona) are offered only in Platinum.
Things get a little dicier when we start speculating on Rolex’s other releases. Speculation about the steel GMT-Master II is always rampant. The watch community has been patiently waiting for Rolex to reissue the Coke with red and black bezel, but some think it is unlikely that Rolex will offer both the Coke and Pepsi models at the same time. Since it is unlikely that the Pepsi will be retired anytime soon, indeed they just released the watch on an oyster bracelet, we might have to wait a bit to see a modern Coke.
Some eagle-eyed Instagrammers might have figured out Rolex’s surprising new release tomorrow: what people are calling the Rolex GMT-Master II “Sprite”. They are calling it the Sprite because of the potential green and black bezel (however, perhaps it’s better named the Spotify since Spotify’s colors are both green and black). Joking aside, this would be an interesting release from Rolex. It would be a new color scheme as opposed to a reissue, similar to when the Batman was released.
@sonofawatch made this bold prediction months ago, but seemed to (maybe) get some confirmation when Rolex released a teaser video that if you zoom in really closely to a screenshot appears to show the black of the bezel meeting a green portion of the bezel (you might need a magnifying glass to see it). I got to give props to the guy for making such a spot, though the green on the bezel looks a little bit darker than the photoshop (more like the variation posted at the top right of this article). @sonofawatch also thinks the Sprite might be Rolex’s first left-handed GMT option due to the arrangement of the numbers, but it could just be a turned bezel or a mirror image. I am not convinced Rolex would rearrange the whole movement to make a left-handed GMT.
Either way, it is interesting speculation and we will find out very soon (tomorrow!). Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
