Richard Mille Releases the Worlds Thinnest Mechanical Watch, The RM UP 01, Measuring In At Just 1.75mm!
Richard Mille has done it again. Releasing an all new watch with world record breaking technical specs. The RM-UP 01 Ferrari measures in at a ridiculously paper-thin 1.75mm, absolutely wasting the rest of the Ultra-Flat challengers.
Lets be honest, if there was a brand that was going to do it, it was going to be Richard Mille. Mille has a long history of smashing records and pushing the framework of innovation in wristwatches, and the RM-UP 01 Ferrari does just that - Stylistically pushes boundaries, while maintaining the overall DNA that Richard Mille has cultivated in it’s timepieces.
While some of the technical specs have yet to be entirely revealed, the watch appears to have a Tourbillon, the time (obviously) and two winding stations to not only wind the watch, but set the time also. These look like they will require a tool, which, is expected on a watch this thin.
Additionally, you’ll notice that the perimeter plate features Richard Mille’s signature screws making it fairly identifiable, however that’s where the design language feels familiar. The dial plate itself is heavily vertically brushed giving the watch a very super-car aesthetic. Which, is fitting considering the Ferrari implication.
The record being previously held by Bulgari and Piaget see’s themselves unseated by a new contender in the Ultra-thin contest, but .05mm - quite literally a hair. And to be fair, I do feel like this has always been an easy win for Richard Mille. The price tag throws this in a much less… er… Attainable bracket at $1,755,000 USD with just 150 pieces in circulation.
However, I will be curious to see what further pieces Richard Mille brings out utilizing the “Manual Wind Ultraflat” movement in the RM-UP 01 Ferrari. You can check out more at Richard Mille’s Youtube Channel.
