15 Best Watch Podcasts You Should Be Listening To
It’s often difficult for new enthusiasts to find good places to consume watch content. Sure, you can read blogs and watch videos all day long, but with the rise of podcasting, being able to chill and listen, whether you’re at your house or in your car is a must. Obviously, there are podcasts for everything, but in the large watch industry, podcasts can feel like they’re a dime a dozen, some are good, some are bad. We thought we’d compile a list of our favorite podcasts so enthusiasts like yourself can weed through the murk to find the best podcasts out there.
Wrist Enthusiast Radio
Obviously, we’ll shamelessly plug our Wrist Enthusiast Radio podcast. We’ve been involved in the watch industry for a long time and offer our insight into the happenings around the industry, as well as shed light on our popular guides, lists, and reviews. Being that we’ve found a bit of a niche in buyers guides and favorites list, we try to keep it casual, and cater to people just getting into watches, while still providing our opinions on some of the deeper industry developments - But in a fun way. You can find us just about anywhere podcasts are available, or we’ve made it easy and created a really simple episode guide here.
Watch Cringe
If irreverent is how you like your podcasts, then we’ve got the one for you. Watch Cringe is a fun, albeit, more adult podcast that doesn’t necessarily fit directly into the watch world, as it tends to go off the rails a little bit, in all sorts of directions that delve into lifestyle, antics, and stories that often revolve around watches, but sometimes don’t - And that feels refreshing. Brendan and Jay are hilarious, knowledgable, while also fun human beings that are just “shooting the shit” that actually makes a cool podcast. Some of our favorite features are “Local Legend” episodes where they interview collectors from instagram. Be sure to check them out.
The Grey Nato
The Grey Nato is probably the most recognized and popular (and probably the longest-running) watch podcast out there. The show is hosted by Jason Heaton and James Stacey, arguably two of the most prolific voices in the watch industry. The show itself revolves around Jason & James’ love for adventures and the outdoors, as much as it is for watches. They offer a great perspective on all things watches, but their really known for their tool watch discussions based around their many adventures, and what watches they’ve worn to accompany them - In fact, their tagline is “Adventure, travel, diving, driving, gear… and most certainly watches.” If you’re looking for a true deep dive (no pun intended) into some of your favorite watches and hobbies, be sure to check them out.
About Effing Time
About Effing Time is made up of three industry juggernauts. Feature Adrian Barker of Bark & Jack, George Bamford of the infamous Bamford Watches, and Andrew McUtchen, the founder of Time+Tide. Each brings their own unique personalities to the (literal) table in a fun, non-pretentious way. Adrian being more of a purist, Andrew coming from the publication side of things, and George who’s quirky watch customization company has given him a unique taste in watches, that provides a cool perspective that most people wouldn’t typically get. The podcast is high quality, available everywhere you can get your podcasts, and also youtube. We’ve found the video aspect of Youtube to be our preferred way of “listening” cause the three of them are a hoot on camera.
Scottish Watches
Scottish Watches have developed quite a bit over the years, but still remains a quintessential part of the watch podcasting community. What started as a simple conversational podcast about watches, has quickly grown into a juggernaut platform with news, reviews, and of course, the podcast. With almost 500 episodes in their pocket, Scottish Watches have grown their fantastic community immensely, and it’s a really fun community to be a part of. Be sure to give them a listen.
Two Broke Watch Snobs
I (Travis) remember when I first started writing and editing for publications in the watch industry, one of the podcasts that was highly recommended to me was Two Broke Watch Snobs. I consumed so many episodes up front that I legitimately felt like an expert. The podcast is based around Michael and Kaz as they discuss affordable watches. Ironically, for a little while, I ended up at the same publication as Michael, who was gracious and a true expert in a lot of ways. If you’re in the market for a podcast that discusses the more attainable side of watch collecting without all the brand fluffing, this might be the pod for you. And truly, Michael and Kaz are a hilarious duo, and will keep you entertained for hours.
aBlogtowatch Weekly
There’s no denying Ariel Adams and his influence on the watch industry. He’s arguably the father of the wrist shot in modern watch media. He’s been around a long time, and he’s seen (and covered) it all. His weekly podcast features a slew of industry knowledge, news, interviews, and coverage. And with his cohost Rick, the show feels more like a casual conversation about watches and the industry without being pretentious or leaving the listeners feeling like they’ve been talked down to. It’s overall very insightful and features copious amount of industry insiders and their perspectives on things.
Hodinkee Radio
While The Grey Nato has sort of come out of Hodinkee (or been absorbed by it), Hodinkee themselves have their own podcast, and it’s fantastic. It started as a weekly show, but has dwindled down to special episodes with plenty of industry news and features. The podcast doesn’t necessarily feature specific hosts, Hodinkee does provide some really cool storytelling abilities based around watch brands and events. While they aren’t a weekly show anymore, there are plenty of back-log episodes to keep you listening for a long time.
Fratello On Air
The Fratello On Air podcast, was (obviously) created by the guys who run the Fratello watch media website. The approach to their podcast really is more educational than most of the podcasts in this space. They offer topics like “How to approach an enthusiast in the wild” and offer helpful tips and tricks for stuff like watch storage, or photography. They’re also, just superbly professional people on and off the air, so a podcast feels natural, especially with the educational approach.
Worn & Wound Podcast
Another long running, and immensely entertaining watch related podcast comes out of Worn & Wound. The company has long produced the podcast, which features interviews, news, event coverage, and banter that we love. The casual conversational direction feels natural, even when it goes off the rails a little bit. The host’s draw from their immense knowledge of watches over the many years of being enthusiasts themselves, and it shows.
Beyond the Dial
Another fantastic option for watch enthusiasts is Beyond the Dial. A more classy watch podcast with a bit more depth. Instead of necessarily covering news and current events in the watch industry, Beyond the Dial tends to be a little more introspective - Delving more into the psychology of watches and consumers more necessarily than watches themselves - Though, there is plenty of watch talk to go around.
Love n’ watches
As is to be desired in this space, Love n’ Watches features a female perspective on the watch industry. Hosted by a husband and wife team, the show features family friendly watch content that offers both male and female perspectives on everything from watch coverage to current events in the industry. It was the first podcast to feature a female host, and it paved the way for other woman driven watch content - Something we feel the industry desperately needs. While the podcast is mostly defunct, there are plenty of episodes still available to listen to.
Rico’s watches
When it comes to guest interviews, there are often plenty of podcasts that aren’t able to get people in front of a microphone. Rico is not one of those people. Including a new guest just about every episode, Rico’s Watches gets really accessible with a slew of watch brand CEO’s, collectors, and personalities across the watch industry. If you’re in the market for a podcast that can get interviews done, Rico’s Watches is for you.
Grey Market Podcast
When it comes to commentary from a grey market sellers perspective, there’s none-such-authority like Luxury Bazaar. The company first started making media headway when it launched its YouTube channel highlighting the inner-workings of the “life of a grey market dealer”. While the main platform is YouTube, the company has launched a companion podcast that does everything from watch spotting, to watch pricing, to showcasing extremely rare watches. While it’s first and foremost a podcast, the company does do video shorts to accompany each episode. It’s fun to get the perspective of the dealers, since so many of the podcasts are from the perspective of their clients.
Calibre Podcast
Presented by Watches of Switzerland, the Calibre Podcast features a variety of hosts discussing all things watches. We find it to be a fantastic “All Around” podcast for those looking to get into watches in general, or seasoned collectors looking for more in-depth discussions about their favorite brands. One of the cooler aspects of the podcast is the fact that they bring a lot of their in-house executives and “Head Of”’s to the table to discuss some of the inner-workings of the massive AD retailer industry.
