Jay-Z's Watch Collection Including a $5 Million Dollar Hublot and Customized Richard Mille
We have already written about Jay-Z’s Richard Mille collection and his Patek Philippe collection. But anyone who follows Shawn Corey Carter knows that his watch collection goes far beyond those two brands. Whether he is spotted sitting courtside at a basketball game or out and about, Jay is always wearing any interesting timepiece. Let’s take a look at the rapper turned entrepreneur’s watch collection.
Jay-Z’s Richard Mile RM011 Felipe Massa in Rose Gold
Jay-Z has been collecting Richard Mille watches for years. He has been spotted in many different pieces, including the Richard Mille RM011 Felipe Massa in rose gold. This watch was named after the Brazilian Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa and has multiple complications, including a flyback chronograph, annual calendar and 60 minute countdown timer. While the watch retailed for around $130,000 USD, it is currently offered for sale at around $260,000 USD on the grey market.
Jay-Z’s Richard Mille RM 027 “Rafael Nadal”
We have written about tennis star Rafael Nadal’s watch collection, and his relationship with Richard Mille. Nadal, in partnering with Richard Mille, made sure that the watches bearing his name were both incredibly light and shock absorbent, allowing peak performance on the tennis court. Well Jay-Z was spotted on the court wearing the RM027, but not the tennis court. Instead, he was wearing it while sitting courtside at a basketball game with his wife Beyonce. The Richard Mille RM 027 was a limited edition of just 50 pieces and retailed at the time of its release in 2010 for $525,000 USD. It is currently for sale on the secondary market for around $1,500,000 USD
Jay-Z’s Richard Mille RM 27-01 “Rafael Nadal”
Back in 2019, Jay-Z was spotted wearing another Richard Mille RM 27 Rafael Nadal, this time the RM 27-01. Building on its predecessor, the RM027-01, released in 2013, weighs just18.83 grams. The watch runs on a manual wind tourbillon movement, the calibre 27-01. The Richard Mille RM 27-01 “Rafael Nadal” is limited to just 50 pieces and retailed for $800,000 USD. However, you are unlikely to find one for sale on the secondary market for less than $1,500,000 USD.
Jay-Z’s Richard Mille RM 035 Black Toro Americas
The final watch from the Nadal Richard Mille series that Jay-Z has been spotted wearing is the RM 035 Black Toro Americas. Unlike the manual wind RM 27 line, the RM 35 is made up of automatic watches. These watches have not been engineered to take the same beating (like on the tennis court) that the RM 27 has. But we like them nonetheless. The RM 035 Black Toro America is limited to just 50 pieces and features a black TZP ceramic and rose gold case. It is currently selling on the secondary market for around $550,000 USD.
Jay-Z’s Richard Mille RM 056 Blue Sapphire
One of the more interesting Richard Milles Jay-Z has been seen wearing is the Richard Mille RM 056 blue sapphire. This piece is no normal Richard Mille as Jay-Z had it commissioned in blue sapphire to commemorate his classic album The Blueprint. According to Alex Todd, the jewelry customizer who made the piece, the RM 056 cost around $2,500,000 USD and took 3,000 hours to make.
Jay-Z’s Richard MIlle RM 56-01 Tourbillon Green Sapphire
Jeweler Alex Todd customized another Richard Mille piece for Jay-Z in 2021. This time he customized the RM 56-01 to have a green sapphire case. Jay-Z was spotted wearing this at Philadelphia 76ers owner Michael Rubin’s July 4, 2021 white party. Watch customizer Alex Todd has stated that the retail price of this piece is around $3,000,000 USD. This makes sense since the factory RM 56-01 in clear sapphire is limited to just 5 pieces.
Jay-Z’s Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph Ref. 5980R-001
Besides Richard Mille, Jay-Z seems to be a big fan of the venerable Swiss watch brand Patek Philippe. Jay-Z has been spotted courtside wearing the rose gold Nautilus Chronograph Ref. 5980R-001 on rubber strap. The Ref. 5980 eschews multiple subdials for a single subdial that includes the chronograph minute counter as well as the seconds hand. The chronograph seconds is the large seconds hand. The Patek Philippe Ref. 5980R-001 retails for $73,330 USD.
Jay-Z’s Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Ref. 5990/1R
Jay-Z seems to be a regular at Michael Rubin’s July 4th White Party. In 2022, he was once again at the party, only this time he wasn’t wearing a Richard Mille. Instead, Jay-Z was seen wearing a rose gold Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Ref. 5990/1R. The rose gold case is contrasted with a nice blue dial with the Nautilus’ famous horizontal pattern. This piece has multiple complications, including a flyback chronograph, a dual time-zone travel-time function, subdial diate display, as well as an indicator of home versus local time. The Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time retails for $114,730 USD.
Jay-Z’s Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph Ref. 5968G
While the Nautilus may be Patek Philippe’s most popular sport watch, the Aquanaut is no slouch. Aquanauts are also nearly as hard to get at retail from an Authorized Dealer as Nautiluses are. Jay-Z has been spotted wearing one of our favorite Aquanaut models: the Ref. 5968G Chronograph with blue dial and blue rubber strap. If you keep up with the watch market, you’ll know that blue dials are extremely popular right now. Because of that, the blue dial increases the value of this Aquanaut. The Patek Philippe Chronograph Ref. 5968G retails for $73,330 USD.
Jay-Z’s Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5230G-010
In addition to the more well-known sport models, Jay-Z also has a pension for Pateks with complications. One of the the watches with complications he has been seen wearing is the Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5230G-10. Beyond the standard hour and minutes, this watch has 24-hour and day/night indicators for 24 different time zones. On the blue inner dial you can see the outline of downtown New York City indicating that Jay-Z’s watch is the New York limited edition. Produced in 2018, this piece is selling on the secondary market for around $75,000 USD.
Jay-Z’s Patek Philippe Sky Moon Celestial Ref. 6102P
Jay-Z has also been spotted wearing one of our favorite complications during Super LIV in Miami. The watch: the Patek Philippe Sky Moon Celestial Ref. 6102P. First released in 2015, the Sky Moon Celestial has decorated blue sapphire-crystal dial with a rotating chart of the heavenly bodies. This provides the wearer an image of the night sky in the northern hemisphere on any given day. The Patek Philippe Sky Moon Celestial retails for $345,380 USD.
Jay-Z’s Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300G
If you are looking for one of the most complicated watches available on the market, look no further than Jay-Z’s Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300G. The Grandmaster Chime features 20 different complications, including a Grande Sonnerie (a chime every quarter-hour), moon phase, and the ability to keep the exact date until 2100. While this watch is an application piece (meaning you need to apply to be allocated one of these watches), it retailed when first released in 2016 for $2,200,000 USD.
Jay-Z’s Tiffany Blue Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-018
We at Wrist Enthusiast have tracked all the celebrities that have been allocated the Tiffany Blue Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-018. The first allocation after the infamous auction was to none other than Jay-Z. This makes a lot of sense since both Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce are Tiffany & Co. ambassadors. The Tiffany Nautilus retails for $53,000 USD but good luck getting it at this price. The watch is probably the most coveted timepiece currently on the market and there are only 170 of them in existence. Sotheby’s auctioned off the first piece for $6,500,000 USD (for charity) but another recent auction set the market price at $3,220,000 USD. That’s a lot of money for a steel Nautilus.
Jay-Z’s Rolex Daytona 116500
What collection is complete without a least a few Rolexes? None we’d say. And Jay-Z hasn’t disappointed. He has been spotted wearing multiple different Rolex models, including what is probably the most popular modern Rolex currently being produced, the Rolex Daytona Ref. 116500. Jay-Z’s Daytona includes the panda dial (though some argue it’s not a true panda dial because the subdials are not completely dark, as well as the ceramic bezel. The Rolex Daytona Ref. 116500 retails for $14,800 USD.
Jay-Z’s Rolex Day-Date Platinum with Arabic Dial Ref. 228206
One of the cooler Rolexes we’ve spotted Jay-Z wearing is a rare platinum Day-Date. But this isn’t just any platinum Day-Date. This Day-Date not only features a beautiful ice blue dial, it also has Arabic numerals and Arabic day and date. This piece has become a favorite in the collectors community recently and we can see why: its stunning. You can currently find the Rolex Day-Date Platinum Ref. 228206 on the secondary market for around $155,000 USD.
Jay-Z’s Rolex Day-Date 41 Platinum 218206
Jay-Z was also spotted wearing another interesting platinum Day-Date, this time the Rolex Day-Date 41 Ref. 218206. Perhaps a little less legible due to the black dial with black numeral indices, this Day-Date doesn’t lack in cool factor. The all black dial gives the watch a sporty stealth look. Price for this piece is $60,000 USD to $70,000 USD on the secondary market.
Jay-Z’s Rolex Perpetual Calendar Modified by Franck Muller
The final Rolex we are featuring from Jay-Z’s collection is a bit of enigma. That’s because it is a Rolex Perpetual Calendar. The fact that Rolex never produced a perpetual calendar probably has you scratching your head. Well there is actually a very interesting story behind this perpetual calendar. Back in 1987, before Franck Muller (yes that Franck Muller) would go on to create his own watch brand, he took a gold Rolex Datejust Ref. 16238 and modified it to become a Rolex Perpetual Calendar. The modifications added a month and leap year indicator, a date counter, a moon phase and day indicator. Surely being a big-time watch collector, Jay-Z knew the history behind this watch when purchasing. Jay-Z’s Rolex Perpetual Calendar may be greatest modified Rolex of all time.
Jay-Z’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked Ceramic
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is one of the most widely recognized watches currently available on the market today, and for good reason. Gerald Genta’s octagonal watch design is timeless. Jay-Z has been spotted wearing one of our favorite Royal Oaks, the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked Ceramic Ref. 26585CE. This piece not only features a perpetual calendar, but a beautiful openworked (skeletonized) dial. The Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked Ceramic Ref. 26585CE retailed for $131,600 USD, but is incredibly hard to get at retail. Expect to pay above $400,000 USD on the secondary market.
Jay-Z’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked Yellow Gold
In addition to his ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, Jay-Z has been seen wearing a yellow gold Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar with openworked dial. This piece is a slim 39mm so it packs a lot of complications in a smaller size. It is currently selling on the secondary market for between $215,000 USD to $250,000 USD.
Jay-Z’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore LeBron James Limited Edition
We’ve all seen Jay-Z sitting courtside at basketball games, so we know he is a big fan. And although Jay-Z is a Brooklyn Nets fan, he obviously appreciates talent. Thus, it’s not surprising to us that Jay-Z has been spotted wearing Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Lebron James Limited Edition (Lebron is also a watch collector). While Lebron is a big guy (at 6’9), the watch is a manageable 44 mm in diameter. Interestingly, the watch is two-tone but instead of the typical gold and steel combination it is made up of gold and titanium. The watch is a limited edition of 600 pieces and retailed for $51,500 USD when it was released in 2013. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore LeBron James is currently selling selling on the grey market for between $80,000 and $90,000 USD.
Jay-Z’s Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso
One of our favorite timepieces that we’ve seen Jay-Z wearing is the classic Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso. The Reverso is iconic for it’s rectangular case design as well as the fact that the dial flips over for protection (or for a second dial on the duoface models). Jay-Z wore the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931 Edition Ref. Q2782521 to his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at the 36th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland back in 2021. Jay-Z was the first solo rapper to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Quite the achievement. The gold Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribut to 1931 currently sells on the secondary marker for around $13,500 USD.
Jay-Z’s Cartier Crash
Cartier makes some iconic timepieces. For example, the Santos is one of our favorite watches here at Wrist Enthusiast. Another iconic timepiece that has been becoming more popular in collectors circles recently is the Cartier Crash. The assymetrical case of the Crash evokes artistic surrealism and we love it. Jay-Z was spotted wearing the rose gold Crash with skeleton dial. This piece was introduced in 2016 and limited to just 67 pieces. Retail price for the rose gold Cartier Crash is $78,500 USD.
Jay-Z’s Jacob & Co. Rainbow Tourbillon
Jay-Z’s watch collection ranges from understated to diamond-encrusted. One of the most iced out watches we’ve spotted Shawn Carter wearing is the discontinued Jacob & Co. Rainbow Tourbillon. This piece is a larger 48mm and features a white gold case with 94 baguette-cut diamonds. The dial is set with an additional 204 baguette-cut diamonds. This piece, Ref. R10WGDCB, retailed for $450,000 USD.
Jay-Z’s $5 Million Dollar Hublot Big Bang
If I told you Jay-Z’s most expensive watch was a Hublot, would you believe me? Well, back in 2012 Jay-Z’s wife Beyonce gifted him with this one of a kind piece. This Hublot Big Bang is set with a whopping 1,282 diamonds, including more than 100 carats of baguette diamonds. The bracelet alone is set with 782 baguette diamonds (for a total of 45 carats). The white gold case is set with an additional 179 baguette diamonds. The watch took 40 months to construct and retailed at the time for $5,000,000 USD.
