The Watches of the Met Gala 2023

The Met Gala is always a gathering of some of the world’s biggest stars. Known for the funky, avant-garde outfits, the Met Gala showcases the cutting edge of style. While we are still seeing some of those crazy outfits at this year’s event, they do seem to be subdued a little bit. Perhaps that is due to the fact that this Met Gala honors the late Karl Lagerfeld, who was creative director of Chanel and his own brand until his death in 2019. Because of this, many of the attendees are wearing outfits designed by him, or inspired by him. And the Met Gala has become something of watch spotting spectacle as well. So we thought we would look at the all the watches we’ve seen at the Met Gala 2023. Let’s take a look.

Roger Federer Wore a Rolex Perpetual 1908 in White Gold to the Met Gala

Swiss tennis great Roger Federer is known for his close relationship with Rolex over the course of his careers. So it makes sense that he would remain loyal to the brand during the Met Gala. Federer was seen wearing Rolex’s brand new reference the Rolex Perpetual 1908, released at Watches & Wonders 2023 just last month. Federer’s Rolex Perpetual 1908 features a white gold case with fluted bezel and small seconds at 6 o’clock. The 39mm watch retails for $23,300 USD.

James McAvoy wore a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Chronograph Pink Gold

Continuing the trend of newly released watches, we spotted actor James McAvoy wearing the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Chronograph in pink gold. While one side of the this beautiful watch is pretty standard fare, the watch flips to showcase a skeletonized dial and chronograph functionality. If you look closely, you can see that McAvoy is wearing his JLC with the openworked dial showing. This piece retails for $37,400 USD.

Jeremy Strong Wore a Richard Mille RM 07-04 Automatic Winding Sport to the Meta Gala

It appears Jeremy Strong has something in common with his Succession character Kendall Roy. Like Kendall has been seen wearing a custom Richard Mille in the final season of Succession, Jeremy Strong wore a Richard Mille to the Met Gala. Strong wore the Richard Mille RM07-04 in green and pink to be exact. Introduced in February 2023, the RM 07-04 was considered to be Richard Mille’s first automatic women’s sport watch. Offered in a variety of fun colors, we see no issues with this being a considered a unisex watch. Price for the Richard Mille RM 07-04 is $185,000 USD.

Michelle Yeoh Wore a Richard Mille RM 07-01 with Snow Setting to the Met Gala

Once again Michelle Yeoh was seen wearing a next-level Richard Mille timepiece. Though it is quite possible she is wearing something new and unreleased (as she does have a close relationship with the brand), it looks to us like she is wearing the Richard Mille RM 07-01 with snow setting. This means the dial and case are all completely covered with diamonds. While Yeoh's appears to be on a leather strap and not obviously on the link bracelet shown on the right, we are pretty sure the watch is some variation of the RM 07-01. Bobby Wooten wore the new Aquis Cherry Diamonds

Oris also made an appearance at the Met Gala. Grammy nominated composer, producer and instrumentalist Bobby Wooten wore an Oris Aquis Cherry Diamonds to the event. The watch is 41.5mm, features a cherry red dial and lab grown diamonds in the bezel and hour markers. It retails for $5,700 USD

Pete Davidson Wore a new IWC Ingenieur in Aqua (Ref. IW328903)

Fresh on the announcement of his new Hulu Originals show ‘Bumpkis’, Pete Davidson showed up in the ”Honoring Karl Lagerfeld”, though not without his signature bucket hat and shades. On his wrist is the all new IWC Ingenieur in Aqua. The watch has become quite the hype piece since it’s unveiling at Watches & Wonders this year, so it really doesn’t surprise us to see Pete rocking it, even if he’s typically a Rolex guy. Eileen Gu Wore an IWC Portofino Day & Night 34 IW659802

IWC had quite the night at the Met Gala. Olympic skier Eileen Gu was seen wearing the IWC Portofino Day & Night 34 IW659802. This watch features a day and night complication as well as a diamond-adorned bezel. It retails for $20,800 USD.

Simu Liu Wore a Vacheron Constantin Overseas to the Met Gala

It doesn't get more classic than the Vacheron Constantin Overseas. When you think about stainless steel sport watches. You probably think the Patek Philippe Nautilus (which is now discontinued), the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Vacheron Constantin Overseas. The Overseas is the newest watch of the group, but still a hit amongs collectors. Well, actor Simu Liu, of Marvel MCU fame, was spotted at the Met Gala wearing the stainless steel variation with black dial. While it normally comes on a stainless steel bracelet, Liu dressed it up a bit and put it on a leather strap. The Vacheron Constantin Overseas retails for $22,500 USD .

Stormzy Wore a Patek Philippe Nautilus Platinum 5711/110P-001 to the Met Gala

British rapper Stormzy is a known watch collector, and we think he might have stolen the show with his wrist wear to the 2023 Met Gala. Stormzy was seen wearing the extremely rare Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/110P-001. This watch, first introduced in 2019, features a bezel adorned with 32 factory-set baguette diamonds, a dial with 12 baguette diamond hours markers, and a platinum case. Price for this watch on the secondary market is well above $500,000 USD.

Rami Malek Wore a Cartier Tank Must to the Met Gala

Rami Malek, best known for winning the Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in the film Bohemian Raphsody, is also a Cartier ambassador. During the 2023 Met Gala we spotted Malek wearing a classic Cartier Tank Must with black dial. The small model Must features a quartz movement and gold case case. It was a limited edition and retails for 11,200 Euro.

Patrick Mahomes Wore a Cartier Santos to the Met Gala

It seems there were at least a few professional athletes at the Met Gala. We have highlighted two time Super Bowl Champion Patrick Mahomes’ watch collection before. Well, he was wearing something new to the Met Gala. We spotted him wearing the classic stainless steel Cartier Santos on steel bracelet. The large model is 40mm but wears larger due to the square case. It retails for $7,750 USD.

Nick Jonas Wore an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph 38mm to the Met Gala

The first Audemars Piguet we spotted was courtesy of Nick Jonas. Jonas was spotted wearing the smaller 38mm Royal Oak Chronograph with gray dial Ref. 26315ST.OO.1256ST.02. Anitta wore a Roger Dubuis Velvet Platinum 38mm to the Met Gala

Brazilian singer and songwriter Anitta stunned at the Meta Gala not only in her dress, but in her iced out wristwear. We spotted the star wearing the Roger Dubuis Velvet Platinum 38mm. Part of Roger Dubuis High Jewelry line, the watch features 813 colorless diamonds for a total of over 52 carats. The watch is limited to just 8 pieces and retails for $1,417,000 USD.

Bella Ramsey Wore a Hublot Big Bang Steel White Diamonds 38mm to the Met Gala

If you are a fan of the HBO hit show The Last of Us (or even Game of Thrones) for that matter, you are familiar with Bell Ramsey. Bella has made waves being as an up and coming young actor and star due to some great performances. Well, Bell showed up to the Met Gala wearing a Hublot on her wrist. She was wearing the Big Bang Steel White Diamonds 38mm. This all white timepieces features a white rubber strap, white dial, and diamond-set bezel. It retails for $10,800 USD.
