Introducing the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition
At its core Oris is driven by their ideology of The Joy of Mechanics, bringing delight to their customers. Of course, the brand is serious about watchmaking and delivering robust timepieces. Because of these dual missions, Oris spent some time figuring out how to make a fun and playful, yet serious watch. And they successfully accomplished this with their newest Watches & Wonders release, a collaboration between Oris and Disney’s “The Muppets”. The collection starts with the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition. The design is based off of their ProPilot X Calibre 400 family, which was introduced a year ago (also at Watches & Wonders). So it makes sense that one year later they would introduce this fun take on the watch.

The Juice
Everyone knows The Muppets and Kermit the Frog. Created by legendary puppeteer Jim Hensen in 1955, the Muppets have been entertaining and spreading joy for over five decades. So who better for Oris to collaborate with to create a fun and playful watch? These days many brands are starting to collaborate on character driven watches. Perhaps the most famous of all is the Genta/Bulgari Mickey Mouse watch. So we are happy to see that Oris has partnered with Disney to add a fun watch to their already successful ProPilot X Calibre 400 line.
The ProPilot X Kermit Edition features a bright green dial (matching Kermit’s color) and is set in the titanium case and bracelet. The coolest part is that Kermit’s emoji will appear in the date window on the first of every month—"Kermit Day”—reminding wearers to smile, relax, and remember life doesn’t always have to be so serious. While many other brands let their collaboration smack you in the face with the dial overtaken by the licensed character, Oris went in a different, more understated direction. With Kermit only coming out once a month in the date wheel, the watch is still a serious watch, at least for all but one day a month.
We had the privilege of reviewing the ProPilot X Calibre 400 (with grey dial) in 2022 after they were introduced at Watches & Wonders. We loved the design and functionality of the piece. It’s easy to wear smaller size from the original ProPilot X, the lighter titanium case and bracelet, and especially the Calibre 400 movement (visible through the caseback). So we are happy that Oris is introducing new pieces to the lineup in interesting new ways.
Conclusion
Oris prides themselves on following their own path through the industry as an independent watchmaker. We are happy they are branching out with some fun and light-hearded watches (not to mention that the we think “Kermit green” dial is unique and stands on its own). The Oris ProPilot X Kermit will “seriously” carry you through your day while you “unseriously” enjoy it.
As we discussed, we particularly like the ProPilot X Kermit because of its subtle approach, only displaying Kermit once a month in the date window. This makes the watch perfect for those that might initially shy away from a similar collaboration. After this release, we are excited to see what else Oris might release in collaboration with Disney.
So how much is the ProPilot X Kermit Edition Watch?
Price for the ProPilot X Kermit Edition watch will come in at (CHF 4,400) $4,783 USD. (Available April 2023).
