Hands-On Review of the Oris ProPilot X Miss Piggy Edition

Founded in 1904, Oris has been bold since the beginning. Producing both incredibly good looking and incredibly functional watches, the brand is a serious industry player who is currently taking it to the next level with in-house calibers and cutting edge finishings. In 2024, we saw loads of really cool and unique collaborations between brands, artists, athletes, and celebrities. Oris is particularly good at finding some really fabulous partners with whom they produce fantastic watches: Coulson Aviation, Hank Aaron, and even Kermit the Frog. And the ProPilot collection from Oris has become one of the staples of their brand. When they gave it a bold yet sleek update in the form of the ProPilot X, we knew it was going to be a platform used for big things. This makes it the perfect candidate for launching a collaboration with an equally bold partner: Miss Piggy, the world’s most famous pig and fashion icon. This is also a brand new iteration of the ProPilot X, let’s dive in and see what it’s all about!

Striking doesn’t quite cut it when trying to describe the dial on this watch. The vibrant shade of pink is extremely eye-catching and it can be spotted from a mile away- it’s definitely going to start a million conversations. However, it’s only upon further inspection that the finer details come into life and that’s the element that I appreciate the most. The baguette cut diamond at 12 o’clock brings just the right amount of bling to the piece. The indices are tone matched to the dial making them blend in perfectly, which gives the watch a very clean and crisp feel. With the Oris logo being mostly invisible too, from a distance you get the same look as some H. Moser watches which I think is superb.

At a glance, the case appears to be the same multi-faceted ProPilot X design that we’ve seen time and time again. However, this one has got a couple of clever tricks up its sleeve. Firstly, we need to fully appreciate the new dimension: 34mm in diameter, this piece has been designed with a slimmer women’s wrist in mind but realistically this watch is going to be popular with all enthusiasts. Secondly, there’s a new case material in the ProPilot X range: steel. With the decrease in size, the heavier material is needed to give this watch a little bit of heft.

The bracelet on the ProPilot X has got to be one of my favourite elements from the whole collection. It really stands out from the other bracelets in Oris’ lineup and the market in general. The multi-faceted three piece design looks really modern and futuristic, which has made it quiet desireable for enthusiasts. Bringing in this smaller diameter watch has really made this bracelet more accessible which is fantastic news.

What makes this piece all the more special is the collaboration with the Muppets. Released almost two years ago, the Oris ‘Kermit’ edition took the world by storm. Whilst it might have divided the opinions of enthusiasts, collectors, and the press, the ProPilot X ‘Kermit’was extremely popular. The small burst of fun, light-hearted energy really fits into the current trend of ‘making watches fun’ that we’re currently enjoying. So, it was a complete no brainer for Oris to release a part II to this collaboration with Miss Piggy: the world’s most famous pig. This collabortion isn’t just a continuation of what the Kermit edition started. It is also a celebration of Miss Piggy’s influence on women across creative industries and beyond, showing that they can be confident, empowered, and ‘unapologetically fabulous’. This watch is a fitting tribute and bold statement. This watch is going to draw so many people into the world of watches who wouldn’t usually have found a way in and that’s just fabulous.

Powering this stunning watch is the Oris calibre 531, which is the staple of their collection designed for smaller wrists. The three-hand automatic comes equipped with a 42-hour power-reserve, so you’re definitely not losing any performance compared to the larger models. Whilst it would be nice to see this piece powered by the Calibre 400 movement (Oris’ fully in-house movement), the introduction of the smaller case size means that we should defintitely be seeing something new very soon. Sadly, the calibre is almost completely covered by a solid steel caseback so we can’t get a full glimpse of the movement, but we have been treated to something else…Miss Piggy.

Overall, the Oris ProPilot X Miss Piggy Edition is both a fantastic watch in terms of the execution of the collaboration as well as in terms of what it brings to the Oris range. Few collaborations are as vibrant and discreet as this one, Oris have really hit the mark with this one.

If you think this this could be the watch for you, there is one detail we haven't covered yet: the price and availability. Unlike most collaborations, this one won't be a limited edition. Instead, Oris will only produce them for a limited time, giving everyone a chance to get their hands on one. The retail price is 2,800 CHF or $3,200 USD.
