Introducing the Vieren Gold Waves, A New Watch From Founders Jess Chow and Sunny Fong
Ever since its founding in 2020 by Jess Chow and Sunny Fong, we have admired Vieren and their unique, fashion forward, approach to design. A design language that has become more bold year over year. But, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Because, even though Vieren is a relatively young brand, Chow comes from a family of industry veterans, with experience that spans over 50 years.
The Stereo Collection, is Vieren’s more playful, and aesthetically bold, collection. With unique and partially skeletonize dials, this collection has come to be the brand’s most distinctive collection. The Stereo Collection, inspired by the 70s music, disco, funk and Studio 54, is fun and loud. The rectangle gold case and bracelet stand out and fits the era its inspired by. The brand says the center of the dials pay homage to a vinyl record at the center of a glamorous dance floor. Quite the visual picture for sure. And while the collection is bold for sure, it is not over the top. We can see these pieces being worn by either a man or woman. And with the new Gold Waves, Vieren expands the collection once again with what is now probably our favorite piece.

THE JUICE:
Like the rest of the Stereo Collection, the Gold Waves is rectangular with PVD gold plating. The main difference in this particular variation is the redesigned dial. The brand has added a 3D radial pattern across the dial to represent the flow of sound waves. While the dial design fits well with the collection’s retro-disco them, it also looks superb visually (which is probably more important). Designer Sunny Fong notes that his own experience and appreciation for music guided the creation of the Gold Waves.
Clearly, a lot of thought has gone into the design of this watch. While many brands focus on movements and complications, its nice to see a young brand that is unabashedly design first (kind of in the mold of a much larger brand like Cartier). But that’s not to say that the brand neglected the internals or the details, as the most definitely did not. The dial’s 3D pattern begins as an engraved mold that is then pressed by a 300-ton hydraulic press before a diamond tipped knife meticulously cuts into the dial to create the watch’s mirrored look. The date disc that sits at the center of the dial replicates analog volume meters from 1970s Braun audio equipment. A piece that is both about time, engineering, and sounds.
Conclusion:
It’s fun to follow along with the innovation coming from Vieren and see how they incorporate their passion for music and the disco era into their love of watches and design. They’ve done a great job of showcasing this in the Stereo Collection and we can’t wait to see what more they bring to the (dance) floor.
