20 Best Watch Winders at All Price-Points

Best Watch Winders

Just recently we wrote about our 25 favorite watch boxes and cases. While that buying guide included watch rolls, trunks, and cases, it also included a few of our favorite watch winders. However, we thought only having a few our favorite watch winders on a list was doing a disservice to our readers. Because of that we created our list of favorite watch winders. This list includes both affordable and luxury options, so there is something for everyone.

For those who don’t know, a watch winder is an electronic device that are designed to keep your automatic watches full wound when you’re not wearing it. When you take the watch off, you just place it on the winder, which will sporadically rotate, in order to keep the time. That way, the next time you want to wear your watch you don’t have to go through the hassle of winding it again. Is a watch winder necessary? Maybe not. But they are nice to have. And if you have some very complicated automatic watches, like a perpetual calendar, which can be a hassle and time consuming to set, they definitely make life easier. So take a look at our 20 favorite watch winders.

Wolf Heritage Double Watch Winder

Us at Wrist Enthusiast are big fans of any cases and winders produced by Wolf 1834. The family-owned brand has been making watch cases for centuries and their no-frills approach really appeals to us. Wolf’s Heritage Double Watch Winder features a faux leather case and the winding mechanism includes a patented rotation program. We hear from our readers that a lot of watch winders are too small for their larger watches. Wolf solves that problem by using watch cuffs that are a bit larger than average to accommodate larger watches. So don’t worry about putting your Panerai or IWC Big Pilot in this winder. Right now the Wolf Heritage Double Watch Winder is available on Amazon for $469 USD.

The Döttling Gyrowinder is not only one of the coolest watch winders on our list of top watch winders, but it is also an impressive feat of engineering. The winder allows free rotation of the watch in all directions, including a complete rollover. Doettling maintains that this type of rotation comes closest to the movement of a watch when it is on someone’s wrist. That aside, the Gyrowinder is insanely high quality and cool. It has a retro-modern aesthetic that makes it look like something out of 2001: A Space Oddysey. The Döttling Gyrowinder is one of the more expensive winders on our list, starting at 23,700 Euro (about $24,650 USD).

Rapport Wheel Watch Winder

There is a lot of overlap in the watch enthusiast community and the car enthusiast community. And it makes sense that someone would come along and create a watch winder that looks like a wheel. Rapport London did exactly that, and we dig it! The winder fits a single watch and is a mixture of silver and black tones, exactly what you would expect on a wheel. There is also a large visible gear in the winder that gives the feeling of a watch’s movement. Finally, the central glass is magnified to better showcase your watch. At $4,975, the Rapport Wheel Watch Winder is an expensive piece, but one we ultimately really enjoy.

Bosphorus Watch Winder

When it comes to leather watch cases and goods, nobody does it better than Istanbul-based Bosphorus. Their handcrafted cases are second to none. We particularly like their “Patina” treated leather options. This just means that the the leather fades from lighter in the center to darker on the edges, giving the case a more worn and vintage look. For those looking for a watch winder from Bosphorus, we’d recommend their4 watch winder in honey brown patina. This winder would really look perfect in a study or office. The Bosphorus Watch Winder is currently on sale for $2,250 USD on their website.

At 144 USD on Amazon, it’s a pretty good deal.

Swiss Kubik Startbox

The Swiss Kubik Startbox offers a very minimalistic, almost Scandinavian, design. While this style might not be for everyone, we are big fans. This winder has a small profile and high quality rotation system (1800 rotations a day, 900 in each direction). At checkout, you can also decide what size c-ring you need to hold your watch (regular for 6.75 inch wrists or larger and small for 6.75 inch wrists or smaller).
