INTRODUCING: A New Grand Seiko Spring Drive Model... In Titanium?

Grand Seiko has come to Watches & Wonders with an all new Spring Drive collection. Within the past year, the brand has released a seemingly endless rolodex of watches that include their famously finished dials. The newly released SBGE283 and SBGE285 are no exception to this. These watches are Spring Drive powered and also sport a GMT function, not to mention the incredibly dials on them both.

THE JUICE:

These two models are not the first by Grand Seiko to feature a GMT function and the Spring Drive movement. However, these are the first models to feature the new high-intensity titanium by Grand Seiko, and the Generation 9 design (wider lugs, more robust bracelet) previously only seen in a pair of White Birch models released earlier this year. This release could indicate a more widespread use of titanium in their future releases.

One watch features a simple black lacquer dial, while the other features Grand Seiko’s signature “Winter” dial - a hybrid of the snowflake and the birch that some have aptly named “Skyflake”.

These watches feature the beloved Spring Drive movement, having the accuracy of a quartz movement but with all the character of a mechanical. Precise Japanese technology housed in a titanium case means an incredibly lightweight, yet no-less-aesthetically pleasing design that you can comfortably wear on your wrist. They also feature a handy 100m of water resistance, which makes these watches incredibly well-rounded models.

I suspect that the GMT function paired with the titanium case is going to make these models a fan favorite, as not many other brands offer a combination of the two with such high quality. And very few, if any, can replicate the Japanese beauty of a Grand Seiko.

These watches are simply gorgeous. The beautifully detailed titanium design paired with a Spring Drive movement and 100m of water resistance means a watch that can go anywhere and do anything. I think this is going to be a very popular GMT watch for the brand.

So how much is the SBGE283/SBGE285?

Price for both models will come in at $8,400 USD.
