THE JUICE:
The Yacht-Master 42 has long been a fairly singular offering from Rolex. In fact, the only model available in 42mm has been White Gold. Adding a couple new models ups the ante with some much needed options in each boutique’s watch case instead of the the White Gold 42 en-mono.
The yellow gold model was much needed - in fact, I think the idea that the Yacht-Master was only available in White Gold felt a little odd overall. The Yacht-Master collection had Everose options in 40mm, but the larger cousin felt limited overall. Additionally, the inclusion of an all white text-profile helps the watch maintain a clean legibility. Gone is the red “Yacht-Master” of the previous 42 (and good riddance, amiright?) in-leu of a clean white “paragraph” in standard Rolex garb. Also, both the indices and handset feature the yellow gold hue.
A further, and surprise inclusion is the Yacht-Master 42 with “Falcon’s Eye” dial. The dial is finished in a blue-green hue that shimmers (not unlike a fish) in certain lights. The material looks clean, and feels organic, but still gives the watch a pop of character that differentiates it from the simple mirror polish of the traditional black dial of the Rolex Yacht-Master.
While not exactly the “everyday man” sport watch, the Yacht-Master 42 is only available in precious metal, so it’s definitely among the pricier of the brand’s offerings (especially in the sport watch category). Rolex also released a (much) more expensive White Gold Yacht-Master with Sapphire bezel. I guess what I’m saying is that the Yacht-Master Collection in general has fit well into the ultra-luxury sport watch segment, and these two additions feel natural, if not expected.
So how much is the Yacht-Master 42 Yellow Gold and the Yacht-Master 42 Falcon’s Eye?
Price for the Yellow Gold model will come in at $29,300 USD, while the Falcons Eye model in White Gold will come in at a steeper $33,300 USD.
