Will Smith’s Watch Collection - From Rolex to Audemars Piguet
In the aftermath of the slapping incident with Chris Rock at the Academy Awards, Will Smith has apologized and resigned his membership with the Academy. The incident marred what should have been the crowning achievement of Smith’s career, his first Oscar, and for Best Actor nonetheless. The incident also shined additional light on Smith, whether he wanted it or not. Being a watch collector, however, I began to ponder a different question? What does Will Smith’s watch collection look like? He was wearing a Cartier at the 2022 Oscars, so he must have at least some appreciation for fine timepieces. It was then that I decided to do what any professional watch spotter would, research Will Smith’s watch collection. What I found is a collection that includes many different watch brands, with very few brands repeated.
Will Smith’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 15500
As I already noted, Smith does not appear to be loyal to any single watch brand, instead spreading his collection among many different companies. One of my favorite pieces from Smith’s collection is his Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 15500. The Genta-designed Royal Oak has been Audemars Piguet’s flagship model since its original launch in 1972. Smith’s model has a silver (some refer to it as white) Grande Tapisserie dial. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 15500 retails for $25,300 USD but is available on the secondary market for $75,000 to $80,000 USD.
WIll Smith’s Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur 42mm Watch
Ulysse Nardin is an interesting watch brand that has always stayed true to its marine heritage. Smith was spotted wearing the very cool Marine Torpilleur in 42mm. This piece has a nice blue dial (blue is all the rage in watch circles these days) along with a seconds subdial at 6 o’clock and a 60-hour power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock. This piece currently retails for $8,300 USD.
Will Smith’s Rolex Watches
While I mentioned that Smith appears to have a very diverse watch collection and has rarely been seen wearing multiple watches from the same collection, there is a single exception. If you guessed Rolex you would be correct (Rolex seems to always be the exception). Smith has been seen in a couple of different Rolexes, including a chocolate dial Rolex Sky-Dweller Ref. 326135 in Everose gold. The Sky-Dweller, first introduced by Rolex in 2012, is one of Rolex’s most complicated watches. In addition to a 24-hour second time zone in the center subdial, the watch has a month indicator just outside the hour indices. You can purchase the Rolex Sky-Dweller Ref. 326135 on the grey market for around $40,000 USD.
Smith’s other Rolex is a true classic and more understated than his Sky-Dweller. The Fresh Prince has been spotted wearing the ultimate tool watch: a Rolex Submariner Ref. 116610. The Submariner is a staple in many Rolex collectors’ collections (except for me, I opted for a GMT instead). You can pick up this Submariner for $15,000 USD and up on the secondary market.
Will Smith’s Tudor Black Bay Watch
In addition to a couple of Rolexes, Smith also has a piece from Rolex’s sister brand, Tudor. Smith’s Tudor Black Bay offers a less-expensive, but very well made, alternative to a Rolex Submariner (you can also get them without a waiting list or purchase history. Smith’s Black Bay has a blue bezel Ref. 79220B is currently available on the secondary market for around $3,500 USD.
Will Smith’s Hublot Classic Fusion Ultra Thin Titanium Watch
Smith has also been spotted wearing one of Hublot’s more understated offerings (by Hublot’s standards), the Hublot Classic Fusion Ultra Thin in titanium. While Hublot may get a bad rap the Classic Fusion has a lot of redeeming qualities. Smith’s variation has an attractive white dial (though I am not sure I am in love with the unsymmetrical offset second subdials. You can pick up the Hublot Classic Fusion Ultra Thin Titanium Ref. 545.NX.2210.LR for between $10,000 and $13,000 USD on the grey market.
Will Smith’s Hamilton Ventura Chronograph
One of the more interesting pieces is not a piece in Smith’s personal collection but a piece he wore in one of his films. In Men In Black 3 Smith is seen wearing a Hamilton Ventura Chronograph Ref. H24412732. The Venture is a very interesting piece with a vintage art deco look. Because the watch runs on a quartz movement it can be purchase at the relatively affordable price of $800 USD on the secondary market.
Will Smith’s Tag Heuer Monaco Chronograph
Smith has also been spotted wearing the classic Tag Heuer Monaco Chronograph in blue (Ref. CBL2111.FC6453). The Monaco is one of the most iconic square watches on the market. Named in honor of the Formula One race at Monaco, the original Jack Heuer designed Monaco was introduced in 1969. The watch was also the first automatic micro-winding chronograph. The Tag Heuer Monaco Chronograph currently retails for $6,750 USD.
Will Smith’s Piaget Polo FortyFive Watch
Another unique timepiece Smith has been spotted wearing is the Piaget Polo FortyFive. Apparently he wore this watch in the film Focus (2015) but has been spotted since sporting it. The Polo FortyFive includes multiple complications including a second time zone and flyback chronograph. You can pick one up on the secondary market for around $10,000 USD.
WIll Smith’s Chopard L.U.C XPS 1860 Black Tie
In honor of Chopard’s 20th participation as Official Partner of the Cannes Film Festival in 2015, the brand produced the limited edition L.U.C XPS 1860 watch in platinum. Smith was lucky to be accessorized with this stunning formal piece. The watch runs on a 22-carat micro-rotor and a double barrel (Twin technology) ensuring 65 hour power reserve and has baguette diamond indices.
WIll Smith’s Cartier Drive (what Smith Wore During “The Slap”)
If you’ve gotten all the way through this article, you probably have a single question on your mind. What watch was Will Smith wearing when he slapped Chris Rock during the 2022 Academy Awards? Well, Smith was wearing a 41mm Drive de Cartier in stainless steel on a black semi-matt alligator-skin strap. This watch also features a black flinqué dial. This watch retails for $6,800 USD. Luckily for the watch, Smith wears it on his left wrist. Since he slapped Rock with his right hand the watch presumably remained undamaged.
