THE JUICE:

When Watchbox announced its first round of “Significant “ investment into De Bethune, I had some apprehensions about what would be released, even though overall I was excited about the new venture and opportunity for the brand to shine. And the DB25 does just that - In fact it Dazzles (okay, a little pun intended).

The dial is made from a sheet of Muonionalusta meteorite - the world’s oldest. The Meteorite hit earth near the Muonio River (hence, the name) and has been finished by De Bethune to create this purple-ish blue color. The method is a cross-hatch called "a “Widmanstätten pattern” that gives the dial its unique pattern.

Further, tiny white gold “stars” have been handset into the dial against a gold-flaked “galaxy” reminiscent of the Milky Way, truly making the dial feel like a window into space. Personally, this may be my favorite of the Starry Varius dials.

Inside the DB25 Aerolite is De Bethune’s beyond gorgeous and capable DB2109V4 movement. The twin barrel movement features some unique construction, utilizing a fan-like jewel fitted arms on the barrel to reduce friction on the mainspring. A second escapement is fastened to a Titanium bridge shaped like, well, a space craft. Right beneath that is the 30-second tourbillon beating at a quick 36,000 VpH. The watch carries a more-than-generous 4-day power reserve.

Overall, the DB25 Aerolite may take my top position from De Bethune. Any apprehension I’ve had about Watchbox’s investment is quelled for the time being. I’m encouraged to see this come out of the relationship, and look forward to what’s next.

So, How much is the DB25VTM Starry Varius Aerolite?

The watch is limited to 5-pieces, likely due to the limited nature of the meteorite used for the dial, and come with a price tag of $260,000 USD.
