Introducing the All-New Cartier Prive Tank Normale

Every year Cartier adds watches to its Prive collection. They’re often precious metal novelties that are relatively limited in nature for their more bougie collectors interested in more modern and luxury takes on Cartier’s classic watches and collections. This year, the brand has added a nod toward its first Tank models with the Prive Tank Normale.

The Juice:

As I mentioned early, the Tank Normale is a nod to the original 1917 design. The tank has largely been one of the more influential watches in watchmaking history, and the brand’s launch of the Prive line in 2017 excluded the Tank until now. The Tank Normale Collection includes 4 models - 2 in Platinum and 2 in Yellow Gold. Interestingly, two of the 4 models are skeletonized with a 24-hour hour indicator rather than a 12 hour indicator like the OG Tank.

The watches are a proper homage in precious metals, and I’m sure that those paying close attention to the Prive Collection are excited to see a more prestigious representation of the Cartier Tank represented. The fact that the watches are offered on a bracelet or a leather strap (with an obviously steep price difference) gives very different aesthetics to each. Personally, I love the way the 7-link bracelet looks. It’s a classic take. One of the more subtle, but historically accurate points is the ruby and sapphire crown. It is a refined additional that we appreciate.

Overall, I find this to be a more interesting release for Cartier. The exclusion of one of it’s most historic and iconic watches in the Prive Collection was quite baffling for awhile. I’m glad to see the brand finally giving the Tank the Prive treatment. While they are a bit on the pricey side for Cartier, it’s impossible to ignore the attention to detail in the throwback salute to the OG Tank.
