Frederique Constant has had a long-standing relationship with British watchmaker, Peter Speake. Now they have come together to create the new Slimline Perpetual Calendar Manufacture. Speake designed this new Manufacture piece, which embodies both style and technical perfection. Peter Speake is the watchmaker behind Speake-Marin watches. He has also done past collaborations and designs for Harry Winston and MB&F. His skills in both technical and visual aesthetic are well versed, making this collaboration an exciting one.
Constant and Speake are using the term “openwork” as the main theme to describe this piece. The skeleton dial puts the FC-755 calibre on full display as it cuts away any solid blocks so that the functions of the movement can be enjoyed to the fullest. Even the hands have been skeletonized to remove any obstructions from the movement. The second hand has been removed completely so that the main focus is on the essential information the perpetual calendar is meant to display. The Slimline Perpetual Calendar cohesively displays the day and date from 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock and the month and moon phase from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock. The leap year has been factored into the month subdial and is symbolized as a red dot the years where February has an extra day. The watch will be limited to 135 pieces and available March 2024.
We are excited to see how this piece performs. We believe it fits nicely into the Manufacture collection in its intricate yet simplistic form. Constant is skilled in bringing focus to their designs as well as the technical details of their pieces. This piece is minimal in color (just white and anthracite grey) so as not to take away from all of its other beautiful features and complications. Perpetual Calendars are complicated movements to begin with so it’s even cooler when a brand is able to elevate it further with challenging designs. The skeletonized dial does just that.
