INTRODUCING: IWC Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month
When it comes to high-profile Hollywood movies, there’s one brand that pretty consistently dominates the silver screen - And that’s IWC. We’ve recently seen the breakout Top Gun: Maverick become one of the biggest films in the world which highlighted the IWC Big Pilot in a new way. This year, IWC released a duo of complicated Aquatimers, this time with the Aquaman movie.

THE juice:
As mentioned above, the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Calendar Digital Date-Month (a lengthy name, admittedly) was released in tandem with the second Aquaman movie, The Lost Kingdom. The watches were released in two flavors to match the characters of the film - In Red and Blue. Red is obviously for the villain in Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta, and blue for Randall Park’s Dr. Stephen Shin. Apparently, in the movie, these watches glow their respective colors, and IWC has included Lume to reflect.
As far as Aquatimers go, these are actually very complicated, even by IWC’s standard. The watches utilize the Calibre 89802 - A Perpetual Calendar with a simulated digital window display, and a Flyback chronograph function to boot. The Chronograph features it’s own subdial with a minute and second hand at the 12 o’ clock position.
Further, the watch measures in at a whopping 49mm x 19.5mm, so we’re approaching one of the largest watches that IWC has ever made (If not the largest). To compensate, the brand uses is Ceratanium material, which is a hybrid of Titanium and Ceramic cause in Stainless Steel? The watch would be really heavy. That being said, regardless of how light it is, the watch is an absolute statement piece for the hyper fans of Aquaman.
Overall, it’s a fairly interesting release. We’ve seen so many comic-book-related watches released over the years, that it’s to see one that’s directly made for the production as an official prop. James Wan (The Director of the film) himself said “One of the things that we wanted to do with the watch is to keep it aesthetically in the same world as my design for Black Manta. They’re not just accessories, they actually perform a very important function. I have a lot of admiration for all the skills and craftsmanship that go into building a really precise fine watch.” And performing functions is what this watch does indeed. Quite a few of them. If you’re looking for utility in a watch, and have a penchant for Aquaman (and really deep pockets) this watch might be for you.
How much is the IWC Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month?
The watch is limited to 25 pieces in each color, and come with a price tag of $33,500 USD.
