This is the first piece in the Submersible line to feature a tourbillon complication, just one of the many reasons this is so unlike any Submersible before it. The revolutionary Carbotech material, a composite of carbon fiber, is based largely on the hull of the Luna Rossa team boat, and helps keep this hefty, complicated watch light and maneuverable. Panerai proudly touts the combination of a haute complication like a tourbillion with the innovative Carbotech case material as another reason that this piece pushes all boundaries.
Besides the mechanical excellence of the tourbillon, this piece is exploding with other functionality that makes it such a winner. Like every exceptional hand wound piece, it includes a power reserve indicator, but strategically placed on the reverse side of the dial. There is a GMT hand with an accompanying day/night indicator for the second time zone. The pointer of the GMT hand is a subtle homage to the Luna Rossa team, as it resembles the sail on their boat. A unidirectional carbon fiber bezel also allows for the timing of immersions.
