Roger Federer's Watch Collection - Federer’s Rolex Watches
Recently, we featured Rafael Nadal’s watch (umm Richard Mille) collection and looked at what the 22 time Grand Slam winner has been seen wearing on his wrist. Well it turns out Swiss tennis great Roger Federer is not only hot on his tale for all time greatest tennis player (he has won 20 Grand Slams), but has a pretty nice watch ambassadorship as well. Being Swiss, it only makes sense that the Federer would team up with the ultimate Swiss watch brand, Rolex. The partnership between Federer and Rolex has lasted for years, and therefore Roger has a pretty extensive watch collection.
Roger Federer’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 Green
Federer’s Rolex collection really runs the gamut, from entry level to extremely high end. Federer has been seen wearing the 41mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual with matte green dial Ref. 124300. Since Rolex refreshed the Oyster Perpetual, or OP line as may collectors call it, in 2014, they have become enthusiast’s favorites. With their (relatively) lower entry price and fun dials, they are a great option for your first Rolex (if you can find one at retail). The 41mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual with green dial retails for $6,150 USD.
Roger Federer’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 Yellow
The green dial Oyster Perpetual is not the only OP in Federer’s collection. Roger has been seen wearing the 41mm Rolex OP in yellow. This watch features a bright mustard yellow dial. Other than that, it is the same watch as Federer’s other Rolex OP. There is one big difference, however. Rolex discontinued the yellow dial Oyster Perpetual in all sizes at Watches & Wonders earlier in 2022. Because of that, the current market price for the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 Ref. 124300 is close to $20,000 USD.
Roger Federer’s Rolex GMT-Master II “Batman”
Federer has an obvious taste for steel Rolexes. He has been seen wearing one of Rolex’s most well-known tool watches, the GMT-Master II Batman. Being a GMT, this watch includes a fourth hand on the dial that makes one revolution per 24 hours and indicates a second time zone. Additionally, the watch has been nicknamed the Batman due to the bezel’s black and blue color scheme, which is reminiscent of the Dark Knight. The current iteration of the Rolex GMT-Master II Ref. 116710BLNR “Batman” currently retails for $10,550 USD.
Roger Federer’s Rolex GMT-Master II “Lefty” 126720VTNR
Being a Rolex spokesperson gets you access to Rolex’s most hyped releases. That was evident when Federer was spotted wearing Rolex’s most controversial release in years, the GMT-Master II Ref. 126720VTNR. The controversy was not due to the new green and black bezel pattern, which most collectors seemed to like, but the fact that the watch is a lefty watch (meant for left-handed people) so the crown (and for some reason, the date) are on the left side of the watch. If you want to see which other celebrities’ got the VTNR, we have the answer here. Unfortunately, Federer appears to wear this left-handed watch on the wrong wrist. The Rolex GMT-Master II 126720VTNR retails for $11,250 USD on jubilee bracelet. If you are interested in lefty watches, check out our list of our 11 favorite left-handed watches.
Roger Federer’s Rolex Day-Date PLatinum Ref. 218206
One of Federer’s more interesting pieces is his discontinued Rolex Day-Date in platinum with black dial, black Arabic numerals and concentric outer dial (Ref. 218206). What this Day-Date lacks in legibility (the indices are hard to see), it makes up for in cool factor. This piece looks more like something a customizer would come up with than Rolex itself. But I can assure you its factory made. The Rolex Day-Date Platinum Ref. 218206 is currently selling on the secondary market for around $76,000 USD.
Roger Federer’s Rolex Day-Date Rose Gold Ref. 228235 with Green Dial
Gold watches with green dials has become en vogue in recent years. The most famous example of this is the yellow gold Rolex Daytona with green dial (thanks John Mayer) as well as Omega’s recent competition, the gold Speedmaster with green dial. However, Rolex makes another stunning gold watch with green dial, and Federer owns one: the Everose Rolex Day-Date with green dial (Ref. 228235). Some may consider this blasphemy but I prefer the rose gold with this color green dial to the combination used in the John Mayer Daytona. The Day-Date Reg. 228235 retails for $40,350 USD.
Roger Federer’s Rolex Day-Date Rose Gold Ref. 228235 with Brown Dial
In addition to his Day-Date Ref. 228235 with green dial, Federer has been spotted in the Ref. 228235 with chocolate brown dial and baguette diamond indices. Due to the baguette diamonds this piece retails at a premium over other gold Day-Dates. You can pick one up for $44,800 USD.
Roger Federer’s Rolex Sky-Dweller Ref. 326934
Watches with blue sunburst dials are among the hottest in the market Right now. Rolex has a few blue dial offerings in stainless steel. The most sought after of the steel Rolexes with sunburst blue dial has to be the Sky-Dweller. The Rolex Sky-Dweller is actually one of Rolex’s most complicated pieces, as it has the date, a second time zone and month indicator. The month is indicated by the end of the hour indices turning red based on what month it is (i.e. June would be indicated by a red mark under 6 o’clock). Federer was spotted wearing the Sky-Dweller after winning the Miami Open. The Rolex Sky-Dweller Ref. 326934 retails for $15,200 USD.
Roger Federer’s Rolex Sky-Dweller Rose Gold Ref. 326935
Roger has also been spotted wearing the discontinued Sky-Dweller Ref. 326935 in Everose gold. Like his rose gold Day-Date, this piece has a chocolate brown dial. The Sky-Dweller was initially released in 2012, so it is one of Rolex’s newer models. It was actually only offered in precious medals until 2017 when they released the stainless steel models. The Rolex Sky-Dweller Ref. 326935 is currently selling on the secondary market for $55,000 USD to $65,000 USD on gold bracelet.
Roger Federer’s Rolex Milgauss
Federer has also been spotted wearing one of the less well-known (and I would say under-appreciated) Rolexes on the market, the Milgauss. The Milgauss is known for its anti-magnetic shielding, protecting the watch against modern high-tech electronics. Indeed, the original Milgauss was able to withstand magnetic resonance beyond 1000 gauss. The retail price for the Rolex Milgauss Ref. 116400GV with green sapphire crystal is $9,150 USD.
Roger Federer’s Rolex Daytona Ref. 116500
Federer has a pretty impressive collection of Daytonas on their own. Rolex’s signature chronograph may be the most sought after line the Swiss watchmaker produces. And the most popular Daytona watch is likely the steel model with white dial Ref. 116500. This piece has a nice scratch resistant ceramic bezel and the popular “Panda” dial (the subdials are darker and contrast with the white dial). Because of the popularity of the steel Daytonas, they sell for multiple times the retail price on the secondary market. If you can get one at retail, it will cost you $14,550 USD.
Roger Federer’s Platinum Rolex Daytona “Platona”
One of the holy grails for Daytona collectors is the platinum Daytona Ref. 116506. Not only is it made of platinum, it has a very unique ice blue dial with brown subdials and bezel. Only people that recognize the dial and bezel combination will really know the value and rarity of the watch. Federer has been seen wearing this watch around the tennis court (though, unlike Nadal, he doesn’t wear his watches while playing). The Rolex Daytona in platinum retails for $75,650 USD.
Roger Federer’s Rolex Daytona “orange” Ref. 116588SACO
More recently, Federer attended the 2022 Wimbledon 2022. He wasn’t there to compete as he was recovering from knee surgery. Instead, he was among other former champions commemorating the 100th anniversary of the tournament at the All England Club. At the event Federer was spotted wearing a brand new (but off-catalogue) Rolex Daytona “Orange” in yellow gold. This timepiece is timepiece features a bezel adorned with 32 baguette-cut orange sapphires and a dial with 11 baguette-cut orange sapphire indices. Though you likely won’t be able to get it, the Rolex Daytona “Orange” Ref. 116588SACO retails for $86,750 USD.
Roger Federer’s Vintage Rolex Daytona Ref 6263 “Big REd”
Federer has also occasionally been spotted wearing a vintage Rolex, most notably the Daytona Ref. 6263 “Big Red” in stainless steel with black dial. The 6263 “Big Red” features a black acrylic bezel, a bezel no longer offered on any Daytona models. The watch is known as the “Big Red" to collectors because it says "DAYTONA" above 6 o’clock subdial in, you guessed it, big red lettering. This Rolex Daytona Big Red has a market price between $120,000 USD and $150,000 USD.
